One could be forgiven for being puzzled about how artificial flowers can save our planet. Figures released by the World Resources Institute into the fresh cut-flower industry confirm that some countries exporting fresh flowers such as Ecuador and Colombia are using up to 127 different types of pesticides which not only cause severe health effects on plantation workers including headaches, nausea, rashes and asthma, the herbicides-used flower farms are polluting waterways and ground water. In the United States alone, flower growers apply more than 360 thousand kilograms of pesticides each year including methyl bromide, metam sodium, chloropicrin and carcinogenic fungicides. In transport costs alone, flying 44 tonnes of cut flowers out of Africa to Western Europe consumes 60 tonnes of jet fuel. Some argue that a single vase containing 10 imported fresh flowers contains well over half a litre of oil. Floral Image has a policy of protecting our environment by ensuring all products and packaging is recycled to reduce landfill waste. Our vehicles run on biofuels to reduce the carbon footprint and we contribute to various environmental initiatives aimed at protecting future generations.
